Maribel Canales (San Juan, 1979)

Visual artist with a versatile career that spans various media: painting, drawing, photography and installation. In her work she reflects herself as a Puerto Rican black woman, her surroundings and experiences. In her most recent work, "Fraternal Triplets" she talks about her life as a triplet, living with her siblings and the influence of this on her as a Puerto Rican, as she considers it important to use herself as a representative example of her country, its history and social problems. Her interests are oriented towards education, art preservation, providing services to the community and various artistic institutions. She is also an art teacher and restorer of cultural assets.
